What is the PACK property in Magnetic core model?

Answer

PACK property on magnetic core models present in library magnetic.olb is ‘space factor’ or ‘stacking factor’ (SF) or ‘Lamination Factor’ of the core. It is a measure of bulk density or compactness of the core.

Ideally, a core should give 100% lamination in which case value of PACK will be 1. Generally, it should be less than 1. In general, stacking factor varies from 0.85-0.98 range.

If you Plot BH loop with the standard test circuit in time domain (transient analysis) you will notice that with increasing PACK parameter the BH loop becomes much wider thereby indicating that more flux is getting linked across the core. Witch increasing PACK a larger amount of Corecive force is required to bring back the Magnetization to a zero value.

With DC analysis the inductor and core is simply a low resistance coil with an Input DC current. The above core model would not show any variation on account of PACK variation in DC analysis.
